In this week’s installment in our recurring series, a new alumni group forms, an incoming student writes about her arrival on campus, and more.

September 3, 1875—Pittsburgh-area alumni form the Princeton College Alumni Association of Western Pennsylvania.

September 4, 1827—Newark’s Centinel of Freedom reports that the Nassau Hall Bible Society has committed to supply every home in New Jersey with a Bible if they do not yet have one within one year.

September 5, 1896—A celebration of Pennsylvania’s Log College, is attended by 20,000 people, including U.S. President Benjamin Harrison. Princeton’s Dean of the Faculty, James Ormsbee Murray, speaks at the event. His remarks will be summarized by Thomas Murphy: “He was glad to say that Princeton College is largely perpetuating the spirit of the Log College.”

September 6, 1969—Jan Robinson ’73 arrives on campus. In her journal (which will later be published in Redbook), she writes, “We’ve arrived. It sounds as if 1,000 men are screaming at once.”
